Lightning @ Wings
Bolts need this win so bad they can taste it as this is the culmination of their season: sink or swim. So are we really in meltdown mode?
I am sure everyone is thinking the same thing……..it happened to the Blues – why not the Bolts? Seems like the same thing here.
The Wings have adjusted exceptionally well to the fast game play and explosive offensive of Bolts.
To bolster that line of thought they have not managed anything for offensive output while Red Wings have had many players put up goals.
I am throwing out great Kudos to Babcock for making those calls at goalie and lineup play.
Everything here points to a Detroit win on paper.
Here is the thing; right about now everyone is giving the Bolts the heave ho tonight because of those above statements and Wings being at home not a help here, either.
When all is said and done I may stand on an Island alone but not giving up on the Lightning.
This is them , backed into a tight corner and I like their chances tonight to muscle up.
This may end up with Wings slapping egg on my face but at the low juice and desperate – I am staying with one of the top five offenses in the league.
Looking at Tampa on the road to shock the Wings and force one last game.Isles @ Caps
This is it, baby – do or die for either team and it is going to be smash mouth hockey at its finest!
Isles have not been to the 2nd round dance since early 90s so they will be shooting for the moon and playing tough puck.
So what do I honestly think here?
This game is going to come down to sheer experience and steady gameplay from one side more than the other.
For that reason I am going with the better snipers, better playing goalie, and the team with the most experience in the playoffs.
Capitals have all those checkmarks next to them and going for the kill at home makes this game all that much sweeter.
This is not going to be an easy game for either team so I would not expect a blowout unless the tending is horrible.
Isles going to be flooded and after this war – the Capitals stand tall.

Having grown up in Detroit, I can’t objectively have an opinion on the Wings. This series has all the makings of a classic high-flying offensive regular season team meets a veteran playoff club and gets smoked type plot. That said, the Wings have fallen in seven games to San Jose (after coming back 3-0) and Chicago (after being up 3-1) – both in the last [4] years.
Save the last 6 minutes of Game 4 and the OT the Wings have dominated the last 120 mins of regulation play. My only question is, what has changed now that will enable Tampa to bounce back to form? The biggest risk I see for Wings is Mrazek falling out of bed. The balance of the crew has been here (some many times) and they have the best coach in the NHL for my money. All of that said, there is a reason the Wings are technically an underdog at home in Game 6 (in contrast to Chicago, Calgary and Minn). Totally understand the love for the Bolts. I think it is truly a toss up. I have been wrong almost every game so far this series but, at even money, give me the veteran Wings at home to take the series in 6.
Michael,
So sorry just getting back with you just now – I know its easy to say after the game is over but I will be as objective as possible with my response;
Bolts (for me) were the way to go because they are the better team and I firmly believe that….not by some incredible margin but overall this year in offense.
I am not sure yet as to how I am going to view this last game but I have Bolts winning it all and called it prior to the series so for me – nothing has changed.
It was a matter as to if the Bolts melted and Wings finished like they could have.
The last game is coming home and I agree – with the way Bolts have played poorly and Wings played this series – they could easily take it in a toss up. No one is getting a gimmee here.
